We are starting to give everyone in the company nick names associated with SharePoint, or “Share.”, get it? Such as “Hey Share.Dan whats going on with Share.Dave and the new BCS component? Or “Share.Edwin, can you whip me up some of that Visio integration on the 2010 image?”
Yes, SharePoint, specifically SharePoint 2010, is taking the JustFoodERP team by storm. Coming back from October’s SharePoint Conference in Las Vegas, we were all jazzed up with the limitless possibilities that the new version brings. First task will be to build some sample templates for customers who want to manage documents and approvals associated with product development or the R&D cycle. That’s an easy effort, simply taking advantage of some basic Document Center capabilities. We don’t really need version 2010 for that functionality, but it does look a lot prettier. The seismic shifts will be extending pre-existing functionality in JustFoodERP to the new SharePoint 2010 client. Why would we do that? Well, firstly it makes mobile and web integration that much easier allowing the JF dev team to publish web services (pages/code units) and have SharePoint hook to these web services. We now have a better platform to extend our shop floor functionality to mobile RF devices. For example, Quality, Preventive Maintenance, Consumption, production output, receiving, shipping, movements, counts, etc…All of this stuff will make it to the new SharePoint client. This makes dev turnaround much easier. For customers that have internal expertise, they can program to their hearts content against the supported web services. However what is really exciting about the new Share. release is that all this functionality will be available to customers at a much lower license cost. We are talking about a couple hundred bucks per user for SharePoint functionality versus a few grand. We’ll have lots of prototypes available to play with at our JustFoodERP User Event in Dallas. Check it out!
