Further Details on Traceability Foundations Initiative in Ontario

Earlier this week we blogged about the breaking news that the Ontario government is releasing its next round of grants to support work in product traceability food safety. Today OMAFRA released more details on the Traceability Foundations Initiative (TFI) - who can apply, and how to do it.

Who Can Get the Money

These grants are for value chains or not-for-profit organizations representing food or agribusiness companies in Ontario. (See the website for their somewhat vague definition of “value chains” as opposed to traditional supply chains.) To get the grant cash, you must be…

  • At least 3 partners in a value chain that covers 2 or more of these areas:
    • Inputs
    • Production
    • Processing
    • Distribution/Warehouse
    • Retail
  • The lead applicant must have its head office in Ontario and all partners operate within Ontario.
Do NOT bother to apply for this grant if you are a…
  • Pet food facility
  • Fish farmer or fish processor
  • Health and/or nutrition supplement processor
  • Tobacco product producer/manufacturer
  • A national organization, or have any non-Ontario based members
  • Partner who is not fundamentally part of the value chain

Still not sure if the grant applies to you? The OMAFRA website supplies an Eligibility Assessment Tool.
